Phi Phi Island life: from Reggae Bar to restaurants

Variation, variation, variation. There is no one way of doing things in the village of Phi Phi Don Island. It's the Thai way, it's the Asian bazaar mentality that makes a trip though Phi Phi Island main village interesting and exotic. The tsunami warning post soars 40 meters into the air and is a permanent reminder of the Dec 26th 2004. The silver sellers have varied and unique lightweight gifts. King Kong Gym gives a very simple work out. The Israeli falafel corner makes a tasty bite. the Reggae Bar has live boxing matches every night. There are some of the best restaurants on the islands in the village. It really is an eclectic experience. More information can be found out about the village from Phi Phi Forum.

PP Princess divers primarily focuses on dive trips to Phi Phi ley and the great dive reefs off Maya Bay, Loh Samah and Pi Ley. PP Princess also has diving trips to Bida islands some of Phi Phi‘s best reefs and the remotest dive sites.

Silver shop Phi Phi Island Photo

The Silver photo was taken at Marijuana shop which has some beautiful work behind small glass cabinets. The shop is on the main street of Phi Phi Village 40 meters from the Phi Phi pier.

Most of the silver comes overland from Nakhorn Si Thammarat province on the east side of Thailand where there is long history of fine silver work. More recently the designs have modernized and are greatly appreciated by the tourists visiting Phi Phi on the daily boat trips from Phuket.

Silver is the ideal souvenir as it is light and easy to carry with no export restriction.

Le Grand Blue Restaurant Phi Phi Island Photo

Le Grand Blue Phi Phi Island is the only restaurant where the western owner owns the land. This distinction is small fair compared to the food served here. Olivier and his team have consistently served the best French Thai fusion food on Phi Phi since the early 1990’s.

Classy and stylish The Grand Blue restaurant is often full in high season so reservations are the smart way to go. Built almost entirely in wood like a traditional Thai House from the 1900’s Le Grand Blue gives off an atmosphere of the oldy woldy, a charming break from the busy streets of Phi Phi’s main village.

The menu is compact but enough for a weeks stay and includes the prawn green bean salad, a superb steak and a chocolate Brule to die for. If you visit mention the website and say high to Oliviere, Phi Phi’s longest standing host.

King Kong Gym Phi Phi Island Photo

King Kong Gym is Phi Phi Islands second Gym on Phi Phi Island. King Kong Gym is a simple place with basic weights but not really a gym you would expect in the west. Still it is fun to get a work out and meet a couple of people who might want to go for a jog. It is 10 meters from the beach so it is an easy addition.

King Kong Gym is near the Karma bar next to Andaman Beach resort on Phi Phi Don Island. Most Hotels and resorts on Phi Phi Island do not have gyms in them as the emphasis on the islands is the beach and trips out to the other reefs and islands.

Photo Hang Out bar Phi Phi Island

The Hang Out Bar on Phi Phi is near the Rimkhao Guesthouse and a favourite of those meeting or getting ready for the bigger bars for the full Phi Phi nightlife scene. I like these smaller bars, they are a bit more local and give you a chance to speak to some of the Phi Phi People who work on the island.

I also like their Phi Ph Pina Colada which has a special taste, I still haven’t found out what they put in it but that one has cost me many evenings.! I remember the last Loi Kratong Night where I I didn’t make it the Tonsai bay to let my float off. What a blast.
