Kayaking around Phi Phi Island

If it's not already on your must do activities list pick up a pen and change it. By far one of the best ways to see Phi Phi picture perfect limestone cliffs, mangrove inlets, caves, and varied marine and bird life. Many companies offer canoe tours around Phi Phi Don and the neighboring islands, with tours combining kayaking, snorkeling and even shark watching!
Kayaking tours can be high energy and action packed with surging waves, caves, and blowholes, or more gentle relaxed paddling, depending on the season and the tour. Paddle during the day, visiting islands, snorkeling and swimming or take a sunset paddle and return by torchlight under the stars!

Kayaking in Maya bay on Phi Phi Ley island Photo

The kayaking in Phi Phi Maya Bay is special on many accounts. Lets take Maya bay first. This perfect beach was closed in 2000 when Hollywood made the Film “The Beach” starring Leonardo Di Caprio. The Maya bay has been called the finest most beautiful beach in Thailand, and maybe one of the best in the world.

The kayaking in Maya Bay is fantastic. The Malibu Two sit on kayaks are the ideal boat to softly paddle over the coral reefs and see them at their best. The Northeast cave is magical and the west tern over hangs are some of the finest in Phi Phi ley.

2 girls Kayaking in Phi Ley on Phi Phi Ley island Photo

I love Kayaking on Phi Phi Ley. When I look back on the last 15 years on Phi Phi, the Kayaking trips on Phi Phi Ley are some of my most memorable. This picture is taken in Pi Ley which is a huge fjord like hollow in the cliffs of the island rock. It is very shallow for most low tide except for a deep poo right at the back. This is a point very near to Maya bay which is just over the other side of the Phi Phi Cliff.

Kayaking here gets you a chance to do a simple scramble up about 50 meters to a look out over the other side of the Phi Phi ley. From this spectacular vantage you can see Phuket and there often Dive boats moored up doing there dive training.

Maya Bay Phi Phi Island Photo

Maya Bay on Phi Phi island has some of the most unique rock formations in Thailand and has been voted the third most beautiful beach in the world. I have been to Maya Bay and not the others and can only gap in wonder if Maya Bay is no the best. Most people are simple blown away by it’s beauty.

It was chosen to be the location of the movie “The Beach” starring Leonardo Di Caprio. Maya Bay represented “paradise lost” and it is found by a small group of travelers who traveled there from Khao San Road in Bangkok. The plot of the film was none too brilliant in my humble but few can doubt the effect it has had on Phi Phi Island.

Although there is a daily pilgrimage from Phuket and Phi Phi and Krabi to see Maya Bay, if you go after 2.30 pm it still has the magic and captures the imagination of the soul….!
