Phi Phi Tsunami Recovery Image Gallery location map

The following pictures taken March 22, 2005 show the recovery of Phi Phi. Travelers returned in droves and it is now that you actually have the chance to see this famous tropical island in a pristine stage just as it was maybe 10 years ago. And some people say, with the cleanup, Phi Phi has become even nicer in places than before... Initially the images of Phi Phi island after the Tsunami were awful showing huge piles of rubbish but as the clean up continued the island returned to it's original beauty, the Village re invented it's Asian Bazaar feel and to many who were lucky enough to not be affected, a memory. For those who were caught up in those terrible days the memory is still hard to fully understand and phi-phi.com sends its sympathy and marks this event with these words.

It is now as if nothing has happened here in August 08. I was here in May 2005 and there was great despair but now it is as if it had never happened. There are the tsunami warning towers and the memorial garden but I feel that the new visitors think this is now history. It is bizarre sad and good for the future all at the same time. I am not comfortable and will leave tomorrow.
