Weather and Climate

The Phi Phi Islands are located approximately 45 km southeast of Phuket, Thailand. Boats leave from Ao Nang, Phuket and the Chao Fa Pier in Krabi Townon a daily basis to take tourists to this tropical paradise.

Even when the weather calls for rains on Phi Phi Island, no one despairs because the climate on the island is constantly tropical with three distinct seasons. The weather is hot April through May (average temperature is 27 to 36 degrees Celsius (80 to 95 F), and it rains periodically from June to September (not enough to be worried about, since there is still more sun than rain on Phi Phi Island, and the rain is warm). There are also better deals to be had during the rainy season. The weather is slightly cooler from October through February. Of course, with the fabulous climate - anytime is a great time to travel to Phi Phi Island, but many consider November to March (high season is mid October through mid April) the most popular time to visit. The northeast monsoon brings beautiful blue skies and mostly a sunny warm climate. Anyone planning to visit during this time is encouraged to make reservations well ahead of time (up to a year in advance).

More About Rainy Weather and Climate in Phi Phi Island

Rain cleanses Phi Phi Island and is an integral part of the ecosystem. In hot weather climates, rain washes the dust away and provides vital nourishment for trees and flowers. The rain plays a vital role in tourism as well because rain fills the wells that support the water supply for hotel accommodations. Tourists use a lot of water and ownership of the wells is lucrative for the Islanders who own them. Since the climate is tropical in Phi Phi Island, there are insects and most rooms have electric mosquito repellants and spray available for tourists.

Wind and Sea In Phi Phi Island

Blue skies and starry nights on Phi Phi Island can be attributed to the light dry north-easterly winds that prevail from the middle of October to the middle of April, and the sea remains around 29 degrees Celsius - great for swimming year round. Divers love Phi Phi Island because scuba diving and deep sea-diving are popular year round - and the tropical climate leads to some incredible underwater sights.
